Preparing Your Gutters For Spring

When the weather begins to get the slightest bit nicer, we tend to start making our home maintenance to-do lists. And after what seems like the longest winter ever this year, those to-do lists may be pretty long. One thing that you don’t want to neglect when preparing your home for springtime is gutter maintenance.

Now is a great time to do the maintenance on your gutters before spring in McKinney starts to bring in storms and rain. Here are our best tips for preparing your gutters for spring:

Clean Out Debris

Preparing Your Gutters For SpringCleaning out the debris from your gutters is one of the best ways to keep them in shape, not just before springtime, but all year round. However, during the winter months we are less likely to be up on our ladders checking our gutter systems for debris, so now would be especially important to do so.

Your gutters are there to drain water off of your roof and away from your home. But if your gutter system is clogged, the water can actually back up and possibly damage your roof and siding. If you notice during rain that your downspout is not producing any water, then it is time for some gutter maintenance.

Prune Trees

Having trees that hang over your gutters is just asking for debris to pile up inside your gutter system. A branch from one of these trees could also quite possibly take out an entire section of your gutter system. That could end up costing you a lot of money as a homeowner. Pruning those trees now will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Fix Any Damage

To prepare for the spring it is important to make sure that your gutters are secured to your home. During the winter months, ice, snow or debris could have knocked the anchors loose on your gutter system. With the storms and rain coming in the spring, loose gutters are sure to be knocked down if not re-attached now.
If you aren’t comfortable with repairing the damage yourself, it is always best to call in a professional to make sure you aren’t missing any additional damage to your roof or siding.

Is it Time To Replace Your Gutters?

You may be to a point where your gutters are beyond repair, and before springtime comes is the perfect time to have your gutters replaced. Before the major storms and rain hits in McKinney, you could have a brand new set of gutters installed on your home. Excessive rain can be damaging to the siding, foundation, and landscaping of your home if not properly routed away with a gutter system.
